James studied classical and contemporary acting theory at Western Washington University, earning BAs in both Acting and Creative Writing. He also performed as an ensemble member of The Dead Parrots Society improv team, earning national awards and hundreds of hours on stage.

For his lead performance in the stage play Terra Nova, James was nominated for and went on to win an Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship in addition to The Mark Twain Comedy Award, performing his own written work at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.

James moved to LA in late 2012, performing improv and character stand-up in the indie comedy scene, including classes at The Groundling's Theatre. He is currently working on dramatic voice work for the indie feature film Violent Space and pre-production for a short film wherein he'll star as a young Walt Disney.

McGrath most recently voiced Wizzie the talking alarm clock in Dreamworks Animation's feature film The Boss Baby. Upon its success, The Boss Baby 2 was announced shortly thereafter. Currently, Alec Baldwin and James McGrath are the only returning cast members listed.
